Job Description:
This opening is in Whitehall, MI with Alcoa Howmet, a division of Alcoa Power and Propulsion – a world leader in the investment casting of super alloys, aluminum and titanium primarily for jet aircraft and industrial gas turbine markets and a leading supplier of forgings for the aerospace, automotive, commercial transportation, and other industrial markets.
This Operations Manager will report to the Director of Manufacturing and is responsible for managing all aspects of production operations for 2 Plants with over 500 employees:
Responsibilities:
• Participate as lead staff member responsible for operation and performance of entire operations.
• Provide overall leadership and direction to direct reports responsible for manufacturing and all aspects of performance.
• Lead multi-disciplined plant team in meeting monthly forecasts and all appropriate business metrics in a continuous improvement spirit.
• Develop strategic manufacturing direction and planning for 1-3 year planning horizon utilizing lean manufacturing techniques, automation, and Kaizen disciplines.
• Direct preparation of operational budgets and coordinates capital plans, appropriation requests, and project follow up.
• Implement quarter-over-quarter improvement strategies to increase efficiency, spend performance, customer delivery and safety record.
• Manage the day-to-day activities of the manufacturing process to assure that safety and best practices are maximized.
• Analyze and implement process flow, inventory and velocity improvements throughout entire value stream including key supply base and outside vendors.
• Monitor the work flow and inventory levels to insure that schedules are met and bottlenecks are identified and corrected.
• Manage relationship with union committee; maintains compliance with collective bargaining agreement.
• Works with planning, sales, quality, engineering and finance to ensure cooperative spirit, continuous improvement and customer satisfaction are constantly driven forward

Basic Qualifications:
• BS Degree in Engineering
• Minimum of 10 years manufacturing experience
• 5 years experience in management leadership capacity within manufacturing/operations with oversight of all facets of business and manufacturing operations
• 5 years experience with overseeing plant or large department financial aspects to include P&L and budgets
• 5 years experience driving improvement through the implementation of the lean manufacturing principles, total quality practices, six sigma
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the above qualifications
• M.S. Degree or MBA
